In the late ‘80s, Toni Braxton formed a group called The Braxtons with her sisters Tamar, Trina, Towanda, and Traci. By 1989, Arista Records had signed them to a contract. They put out one single, “Good Life”, which didn’t sell well.
Toni Braxton, however did attract the attention of famous music producer Kenneth Babyface Edmonds, who got her to record a song called “Love Should Brought You Home” as well as a duet with Babyface called “Give U My Heart”, both of which ended up on the soundtrack of Boomerang, a popular Eddie Murphy film.
This was so successful that Babyface’s Arista Records imprint, LaFace Records, signed Toni Braxton to do solo music, and they immediately got to work on her first album. This eponymous record came out in 1993 and reached #1 on Billboard Magazine’s 200 chart in the United States, as well as the top 10 of many other countries.
