In 2010, Young Thug’s rap music career started when he appeared on “She Can Go” by TruRoyal. From 2011 through 2012, Young Thug dropped the first three of I Came from Nothing, a series of mixtapes. Rap artist Gucci Mane was impressed with them and approached Young Thug.

By the next year, he’d signed him to 1017 Brick Squad Records, his label, which is an imprint of Atlantic Records. Young Thug’s first label release was 1017 Thug, his 4th mixtape overall. It got great reviews, and was listed by Pitchfork, Complex, Rolling Stone, and The Guardian as being one of the best albums of 2013.

In early 2016, Young Thug dropped a new mixtape called I’m Up and then the third in his Slime Season series, saying that this would be the conclusion of his albums made up of his leaked material. In the middle of the year, he toured around the States with what he called the Hi Tunes tour.

In early 2021, YSL Records dropped another compilation album, this one called Slime Language 2 and also featuring Gunna. It debuted in the #1 spot on Billboard 200. Its singles were “That Go!” And “Take It to Trial”. A mere few days later, they dropped a deluxe edition with 8 more tracks.

In September of that year, Young Thug got to the #1 spot for the third time, thanks to appearing on Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy”. In October, Young Thug’s second official album, Punk, dropped.
