In the middle of the ‘90s decade, Styles P and his friends Sheek Louch and Jadakiss formed a hip hop group called The Lox, and started rapping together. It didn’t take long for them to grow a following in the underground music scene due to the strength of their rap stylings and performance skills.

When they were still teenagers, the three friends met the rap superstar Mary J. Blige, who was blown away by the strength of their lyrics, and in response passed their demo recording on to another rap superstar, Sean Diddy Combs, who in turn signed them onto his famous label, Bad Boy Records.

From there, the Lox immediately went on to collaborations with artists such as Diddy, Mary J. Blige, the Notorious B.I.G, Mariah Carey, and others, which built them an even larger following and gave them legitimacy in the rap industry. Soon, due to being on these celebrities’ songs, they found themselves charting.

Some of the major songs that the Lox both composed and themselves performed in include Diddy’s “I Got the Power” and “It’s All About the Benjamins”, “Can’t Get You Off My Mind” by Mary J. Blige, “Honey” by Mariah Carey, “Last Day” by the Notorious B.I.G., and “24 Hrs to Live” by Mase.

After the Notorious B.I.G. was tragically killed, the Lox wrote a tribute to their friend called “We’ll Always Love Big Poppa”, which Diddy included as a bonus track on his three time platinum album called No Way Out. The acclaim and fame that this song brought them allowed the Lox to do even more of their own songs.

Eventually, it also led to them getting to make their first album together. It came out in early 1998 and was called Money, Power & Respect.

It went on to gain platinum certification from the RIAA, but despite how enormously successful it was, the Lox worried that Bad Boy Record’s glossy style wasn’t a good fit for their darker, grittier music. After approaching Diddy about breaking their contract, however, he refused.

This led to an altercation during which Styles P ended up violently throwing a chair at Diddy, who was so angry he ultimately allowed the group to leave. Shortly afterwards, the Lox signed a contract with Ruff Ryder.

From there, the Lox released a second album called We Are the Streets, in addition to making appearances on various Ruff Ryder albums. Finally, in 2002, Styles P dropped the first album he did on his own, which was called A Gangster and a Gentleman.

The album’s big single was “Good Times”, which eventually reached the twenty second slot on Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 charts in the United States, as well as the sixth slot on their Hot R&B Hip Hop chart. “Good Times” was also played all over the airwaves throughout that year.

Styles P’s second album came out in 2006. It was called Time is Money, and by the next year, he had yet a third album out called Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman).

Styles P then put out a bunch of artistically and commercially successful independent mixtapes until he then in 2010 put out two more label albums: The Green Ghost Project, a collaboration with DJ Green Lantern, and The Ghost Dub-Dime.

From that point on, Styles P put out three more solo albums over the next four years: Master of Ceremonies, The World’s Most Hardest MC Project, Float, and Phantom and the Ghost. These all helped Styles P net worth flourish.

It was a whole sixteen years since the previous Lox album then when, in 2016, they reunited for Filty America…It’s Beautiful, a brand new full album. Despite their long time apart from each other as a joint group, Filthy America…It’s Beautiful hit the sixth spot on Billboard Magazine’s R&B Hip Hop chart.

It did so well that they spent the next few years releasing more albums together: G-Host, Dime Bag, S.P. The Goat: Ghost of All Time, and Presence. Meanwhile, Styles P collaborated with Dave East on yet another album called Beloved, and Styles P put out another solo release called Styles David: Ghost Your Enthusiasm in 2020.

Styles P also wrote a novel called Invincible, which came out in 2010. Styles P and Adjua, his wife, both took part in the reality TV show, Marriage Boot Camp, season 16, in 2020.
