When Steve Burns first showed up for his initial audition for Nickelodeon’s children’s show, Blues Clues, the executives at the station didn’t care for him due to his having a pierced ear and long hair.

The creator of Blue’s Clues, Traci Paige Johnson, however, really liked him so asked him to please come back the next day with a shorter haircut and no earring. Furthermore, the preschool age kids who had been shown clips of various hosts had all liked him the best. Steve Burns was by far the clear winner.

Even one of the Nickelodeon execs, Alice Wilder, had to admit that Steve Burns had a gift. According to her, he “just knew where to look in the camera to really talk to kids. He was just right”.

Almost instantly, Blue’s Clue took off as a massive hit, and he became a superstar amongst the kids set and even beyond. A lot of teenagers and even parents developed crushes on him due to his sweet, direct style, and Steve Burns was surprised to find himself receiving loads of letters and emails from them.

People Magazine even added Steven Burns to their list of most eligible single men in the United States of America! One person who wrote a book on Blue’s Clues called Diane Tracy praised Steve Burns for how unique his persona was for a kids’ TV presenter. “There is nothing syrupy about him,” she praised. “His humor is sometimes borderline offbeat, but never inappropriate for preschoolers.”

In short, Steve Burns didn’t talk down to kids but managed to connect directly with their wavelength, on their terms.

At the start of 2001, Steve Burns finally decided to leave Blue’s Clues after having done one hundred episodes over the course of 6 seasons. Before his rather abrupt departure, he handed over the reins of the show to Joe, who was supposedly the character Steve’s younger brother. Joe was played by Donovan Patton.

Amongst the many reasons Steve Burns wanted to leave the show is he didn’t have aspirations of being a kid’s TV host forever, and also given he was losing his hair at the time, didn’t want to lose his youthful appear on the air. In fact, the day after he finished filming, he shaved his head, which he found very liberating.

As soon as he left, various rumors began to swirl around Steve Burns, included various death rumors, including one that a lookalike had replaced him. Steve Burns made numerous television appearances after that point to reassure children that that was not the case.

“Steve” had simply grown up and gone to college, as he had said on the show.

Since leaving Blue’s Clues, Steve Burns has largely focused on his music career, which has also helped Steve Burns net worth. Steve Burns spent two years writing and recording music for what would eventually become his debut album called Songs for Dustmites. Steve Burns dropped the album in 2003.

Steve Burns recorded Songs for Dustmites in Brooklyn and released it via a label called PIAS Records. Steve Burns received help from Steven Drozd, from the band The Flaming Lips, who helped him on 6 of the songs.

Meanwhile, the bassist of The Flaming Lips, Michael Ivans, helped him engineer it, and Dave Fridmann, The Flaming Lips’ producer, helped him produce the album. The song “Mighty Little Man” from the album later became the theme song for the CBS network’s The Big Bang Theory spin off, Young Sheldon.

Steve Burns would himself then have a recurring role on Young Sheldon as an adult Star Trek fan who befriends the titular character, who would later grow up to be the character Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory.

After the success of Songs for Dustmites, Steve Burns formed a band with Stephen Drozd and Ryan Smith called Steve Burns and the Struggle. With them, he dropped another album, this one called Deep Sea Recovery Efforts.

Steve Burns later collaborated with Stephen Drozd on an album for kids called Foreverywhere, the first song of which was called “The Unicorn and Princess Rainbow”. The name of their band for this album was STEVENSTEVEN.

Shortly after this success, Steve Burns cameoed on another album for kids, Tim Kubart’s Building Blocks. From the years 2006 through 2010, Steve Burns did the voice over narration work for another kids’ show, this one called Roll Play.

Steve Burns also appeared on film as a vampire in the comedy horror Netherbeast Incorporated in 2007. The next year, he took on the role of an astronaut in the film Christmas on Mars.
