She was born to parents who came together during World War II. Albert Carotenuto was busy with a military tour in Germany when he met Linda’s mother Inge. Albert and Linda relocated to Whippany, New Jersey, about 30 miles from New York City. Her father taught mathematics and science at the high school while her mother was a housewife.

In 1990, Linda and Bruce went their separate ways but remained friends. She married an old friend from Germany, the architect Dieter Rausch on 30 December in 2004 and they remained happy until her death in 2020.
