Before Lil Baby started his career as a rap singer for Quality Control, he was often in the same studios but in the capacity of dealing drugs to the artists and other people who worked there.

Coach K, a rapper at Quality Control, thought that he would make a great rapper due to his life experience he would work into his music, and when Lil Baby got out of prison, he had even more related experience that made just the right material for his music.

Lil Baby released two mixtapes after signing on to Quality Control. They were called Perfect Timing and Harder Than Hard. Not long after, Lil Baby also collaborated with another rap artist called Marlo on another mixtape called 2 The Hard Way.

They were all modest successes but he didn’t really start to hit it big until he finally dropped Too Hard, which featured a song called “Freestyle”, which did very well, thanks to its popular music video which has had more than four hundred million You Tube views.

Thanks to this and the success of its next single “All of a Sudden”, a collaboration with Moneybagg Yo, Too Hard did extremely well and paved the way for Lil Baby’s first full length album, Harder Than Ever, which featured “Life Goes On” with Gunna and Lil Uzi Vert, “Yes Indeed”, which featured Drake, and “Southside”.

Harder Than Ever immediately hit third place on Billboard 200 in the United States of America. Lil Baby followed this up with Drip Harder, a mixtape collaboration with Gunna. “Drip Too Hard”, its biggest hit single, went multi platinum a whopping nine times, and hit the fourth spot on Billboard Hot 100.

“Drip Too Hard” also nabbed a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Sung Performance that year.

In late 2018, Lil Baby made an appearance on the TV series for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim called FishCenter Live, and soon afterwards dropped another mixtape, this one called Street Gossip, as well as dueted with Yung Gravy on “Alley Oop”, a new song.

In 2019, Lil Baby acted again, this time in the stoner sequel, How High 2, and then put out a single called “Out the Mud” with Future. Lil Baby then collaborated with DaBaby. The song was called simply “Baby”, a reference to the shared similarity between their two rapper names.

In 2020, Lil Baby put out his second full length album, My Turn, which featured singles such as “Woah”, “Catch the Sun” (which also appeared in a movie called Queen & Slim), and “Sum 2 Prove”. My Turn instantly nabbed the top spot on the Billboard 200 in the US.

An impressive twelve of the songs from the album landed in different slots on Billboard’s Hot 100, which added up to forty seven songs of his to make this prestigious chart, which tied him with Paul McCartney and Prince on the records.

Later that year, Lil Baby dropped a deluxe edition of My Turn which also hit number 1 on Billboard 200. The deluxe edition featured a song called “The Bigger Picture”, which was about police violence against Black people in light of George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent protests that swept the nation.

The deluxe edition of My Turn also featured a song called “We Paid”, a collaboration with 42 Dugg. By September, the album became the very first in 2020 to hit the double platinum status certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Meanwhile, the Grammy Awards chose to nominate “The Bigger Picture” for two awards, namely Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. It did not win, although Lil Baby did get to perform it at the Grammys. The very next day, he dropped “Wants and Needs”, a new song with Drake.

In June of 2021, Lil Baby wrote, recorded, and dropped a new album called The Voice of the Heroes, which was a collaboration with Lil Durk. This album also instantly landed on the top of the charts.
