Always on the edge of controversy, DJ Envy made headlines during the presidential debates when he revealed that he supports President Trump’s idea of bringing back stop-and-frisk.

Judge Shira Scheindlin repealed the policy in 2013 and since then, police officers have been adopting written policies specifying when such stops are acceptable. Due to its association with racial profiling, stop and frisk is regarded as a controversial practice.

DJ Envy, who surprisingly disagreed with Trump’s plan, stated that he agreed with the prospect of bringing back the policy during the debates. The DJ explained that his belief was formed by the fact that his father was a retired police officer. He said that he was of the opinion that stop and frisk is effective since it helps keep guns off the streets, especially in areas with a high crime rate. Although he acknowledged the police’s tactics were ‘unconstitutional’, he did point out that if it were done correctly, the results would be much better.

Once word got out that Envy backed Trump’s call to bring back stop and frisk, the topic started trending on Twitter, and the DJ’s mentions exploded with heated responses. This led to DJ Envy disclosing a recent incident in which he claimed a police impersonator shot at him while he was driving on Route 3 at dawn early one morning.

It was reported that the DJ was travelling to work in northern New Jersey at about 3 am on September 22, when what appeared to be a police car pulled up behind him. The red and blue lights on this cruiser made him uneasy, since police lights are blue in New York and New Jersey.

Envy didn’t pull over, but continued driving through “one of the most dangerous areas in New Jersey”. The SUV with lights flashing rammed into the back of his car, and as he drove faster, it rammed him again. An upcoming toll booth forced him to slow down and as the car passed him he realized this was no cop car.

As he smashed the car in reverse to get away, a man wearing a black mask and hoodie started firing at Envy’s car. Three shots hit his car; one hit a tire, and two hit the front of the vehicle. Luckily the DJ was uninjured. Within five minutes of calling the police, the suspects had allegedly robbed someone else on the highway.

On the radio show, his co-host Charlamagne Tha God said Envy was talking about Newark, but Envy declined to specify. Read on to learn more about what DJ Envy’s net worth is.
