In 2008, mutual friends of skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and Chanel West Coast introduced them to each other, and the two hit it off very quickly. Not long after that, Rob Dyrdek hired Chanel West Coast as his receptionist. This was at the time that he was starring in the reality television show on MTV Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory in 2009.
The show was still in its first season at the time but was successful enough for MTV to decide to renew it for Season 2, which aired later that same year. A third season followed the next year, 2010, and then a fourth in 2011. Each season had between 9 and 12 episodes.
In her capacity as his receptionist, Chanel West Coast would often appear on the show. Also in 2011, Chanel West Coast took on the role of Sheila in a single episode of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, an MTV sitcom. This was the first time she ever acted professionally.
Later on in 2011, Chanel West Coast was hired as one of the co-hosts of the comedy TV clip show Ridiculousness. In each episode, she along with Sterling Steelo Brim and, again, Rob Dyrdek, would react to various online videos that were popular that week, often poking fun at them.
Also that same year, Chanel West Coast got her first voice work gig, acting a character called Flipz in Wild Grinders, an animated television series. She played that part through the year 2013, around the time she had signed on to Ridiculousness’s third season.
Chanel West Coast and Rob Dyrdek continued to do Ridiculousness concurrently. That show’s sixth season aired in 2014 at the same time as the fourth season of Ridiculousness.
Chanel West Coat continued to do other work as Ridiculousness continued on. For example, in 2017, Chanel West Coast appeared 10 times as a supporting cast member on the reality show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood in that series’ 4th season. The mixtape got a fairly positive review in Dropdick Divas Media by Riley Sky, who gave it a B- and said that it felt individual and did a good job of selling her as a strong independent woman.
Chanel West Coast headlined two separate tours in order to promote Now You Know. They were called the Now You Know Tour and the Punch Drunk Love Tour. The song “Been On” with French Montana also became a music video.
In 2015, Chanel West Coast released another mixtape. It was called WAVES and had appearances by B-Real and YG.
As far back as 2014, Chanel West Coast announced that she had started working on her very first studio album, and that it would come out that year. That date then ended up being changed to 2016, but even that was not to be. Despite that, “Blueberry Chills” with Honey Cocaine did drop on the 15th of January in 2014.
And it was only two weeks later that Chanel West Coast dropped the second single, “New Feeling”. There was then a gap of eight whole months until the third single appeared: “Miles and Miles”. After that, not much else was heard from the album.
In 2015, Chanel West Coast dropped a song called “Bass in the Trunk” that appeared on an episode of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory. Three years later in 2018, Chanel West Coast dropped another song, this one called “Nobody”.
