Before Adam Silver became the official commissioner to the National Basketball Association, Adam Silver had a number of high profile jobs with the National Basketball Association.
He was the senior vice president of National Basketball Association Entertainment and then the chief operations officer of National Basketball Association Entertainment.
While working in this department, Adam Silver executive produced a number of films. These included Michael Jordan to the Max, which was an IMAX film, and Whatever Happened to Micheal Ray?, a documentary. He also worked on The Year of the Yao and Like Mike.
After this, Adam Silver was the chief of staff for the National Basketball Association and at another point was the special assistant to the commissioner. Adam Silver also spent time as the president and chief executive officer for National Basketball Association Entertainment.
Adam Silver spent 8 years as the National Basketball Association’s deputy commissioner.
During that time, Adam Silver was involved in numerous key events. They included him developing the Women’s National Baketball Association and the National Basketball Association Development League, and creating National Basketball Association China.

Adam Silver then proceeded to take away all of Donald Sterling’s authority, and impressed upon the other owners that it would be strongly advisable should they vote to oust Sterling.
Not only was Donald Sterling subsequently banned from walking into a Clippers facility ever again, but from even so much as attending a single National Basketball Association game ever again. To this day, it is perhaps the harshest sentence ever to have been carried out against a team owner by any sporting association.
Later that year, Adam Silver wrote an opinion editorial article for The New York Times, declaring his support of the legalization of betting in sports, as long as it’s regulated.
Adam Silver’s argument was that, given it was happening anyway regardless of legality, it would be beneficial to bring it “out of the underground and into the sunlight where it can be appropriately monitored and regulated”.
That same year, 2014, the legendary sports magazine Sports Illustrated honored Adam Silver by naming him the Executive of the Year.
The next year, Sports Business Journal gave Adam Silver the title of their Executive of the Year, Time Magazine listed him as one of the 100 Most Influential People, and Fortune Magazine named him one of the 50 Greatest Leaders.

This led to potential trouble in terms of China’s partnership with the National Basketball Association and put that deal under a great deal of threat.
China apparently was genuinely considering cutting off all connection to the National Basketball Association in response. Adam Silver’s response to them was “It is inevitable that people around the world—including from America and China—will have different viewpoints over different issues…
“It is not the role of the NBA to adjudicate those differences.”
This failed to impress Vivo, a manufacturer of smart phones in China, who immediately cut of all ties with the National Basketball Association due to how they had handled the situation.
Due to the COVID 19 global pandemic, the National Basketball Association season of 2019 through 2020 was suspended. The decision was made by Adam Silver, who had the authority in his role of commissioner for the National Basketball Association. This happened in March.
By June, the season had picked again through the use of the National Basketball Association Bubble, a project that cost one hundred and seventy million dollars and was meant to safe guard the players and coaches while making sure that the season could successfully finish.
